Sanctification is the action of being made holy. As sinful humans, we aren’t holy, and we can’t sanctify ourselves. By ourselves, we are evil and unholy, but when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, and follow him, we can be sanctified. When we are saved, we are a made a child of God, and anyone who is a child of God is made holy. Why would God want anything to do with someone who is not holy? God is the most holy person who has ever existed. He wouldn’t want to associate with unholy people, but when we are made His children, we are brought close to Him, and then sanctified. If the ground that God steps on is made holy, then surely we, His children made in His own image, will be made holy when we accept Him into our heart. We may sin, and that is what dishonors God’s holiness. Even though Jesus is within those who trust in Him, people still can make mistakes that hurt their relationship with God. When we repent, we wash away mistakes, come closer to God, and honor the sanctification and salvation that he has given us.
